Many of you will be working from home during the coronavirus lockdown, so Zoe has put together a short video to help you look after your body while using a computer. There are some stretches and tips here to help avoid muscle aches and pains.
* Zoe is currently not offering massage treatments due to the coronavirus crisis. Further information will follow once advised but below are details of her usual treatments. *
Zoe Myall Therapies
Sports Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release, Kinesio Taping
Zoe Myall is a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists and offers sports massage, deep tissue and myofascial release techniques plus Kinesio Taping under the separate trading name of Zoe Myall Therapies.
Sports Massage is not solely for people who do sports. If you work at a desk, or spend a lot of time driving, you may suffer back, shoulder and neck pain or stiffness. Sports Massage utilises methods such as muscle energy techniques (METs), soft tissue release (STR), and stretching to break down adhesions, relieve tension and aid circulation.
Deep Tissue Massage concentrates on areas of tension and pain and uses deep, slow strokes in order to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). It helps to break down adhesions in the tissue to relieve pain and restore normal movement.
Myofascial Release is a gentle manual therapy used to treat soft tissue and fascial tension and restrictions. Where fascia becomes tightened it can restrict movement and cause pain. Zoe will utilise myofascial release techniques where fascia is found to be causing restriction to the muscles and joints.
Kinesio Taping is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. It can be used for a range of conditions including muscle imbalance and helps with postural correction, plus providing pain relief and helping to prevent re-injury.

What should you wear for a treatment?
Comfortable, loose clothing. Shorts can be worn if you prefer. Towels are used during the treatment to cover areas not being worked on so you are kept comfortable.
Is it painful?
If you have areas of tightness, tenderness can be felt; however, I will speak to you during the massage to check the pressure and ensure you are comfortable and less or firmer pressure can be used.
What does an appointment involve?
At the first appointment, a medical history is taken and a treatment plan will be discussed and agreed with you. For sports massage, depending on your requirements I may carry out passive, active, and resisted muscle tests to identify where muscle tightness, weakness or imbalances exist. After the treatment, specific exercises and stretches can be suggested to help you.
On your first appointment you will be asked to complete a health questionnaire. This is to ensure that the treatment is suitable for you. If there are any health concerns you may be referred to your GP for further advice. Women must also notify the therapist if they are pregnant, or think they may be pregnant.
All information provided will be treated as confidential and safely stored and your details will be updated to create a record of the treatment provided and its outcome.
Your details will not be shared with anybody else unless you give prior consent in regards to care for your health and well-being and as part of your treatment plan.
